The name of Compreignac comes from Compreor which means 'I buy'. It was formerly an important parish, town of stage and garrison before the Revolution. The road of Paris crossed the borough until the beginning of the XVIIIth century.

The strengthened church which has just been restored and which is one of most beautiful of the area. It was built in the XIIth century, was destroyed by Prince Noir in 1370 and was rebuilt and increased in the XVIIth century.
