Name - Eglise Sainte-Croix Location - Gorre Department - Haute-Vienne 87 State - Church Gorre was before the Revolution a parish of the Haut Limousin, in the archpriest of Nontron. It had a church of the XIth century, with a square bell-tower of two stages. This church was next to the buildings of the chateau and was demolished at the end of the XIXth century. It was replaced in 1892 by the current church. Gorre belonged to the Viscount of Rochechouart. It had as lords the family of Saint-Laurent, then the family of Barry. Of XVIth century until the Revolution, its lords were family members of Beaupoil de Sainte-Aulaire, who built the current castle in the XVIIIth century. |
