The Chateau d'Excideuil is a chateau in the commune of Excideuil in the Dordogne department.
The Chateau de Excideuil is located in the Perigord vert, in the North-East of the department of the Dordogne, in edge of the secondary road 705 (old route main road 705). It is established on a rock in the immediate south of the town of Excideuil and in the north of the valley of Loue.

It has been registered as a historic building since 1927.
As of the XIth and the XIIth centurys, the Viscounts of Limoges strengthen the site while making established walls and a keep to supervise the road which connects Limoges to P?rigueux by Saint Yrieix.
Tackled three times in 1182 by the English troops, carried out at the time of an occasion by Richard the Lion-heart, the castle still resists.
In 1303, the castle receives the visit of King of France Philippe le Bel,, and the following year that of the future Pope Clement V.
At the time of the One hundred Year old war, after having resisted an attack in 1346, It be known of the English occupation in 1351. Released again in 1356 then returned to the English in 1360, after the treaty of Bretigny, it is taken again by the troops of Du Guesclin in 1370.
During the wars of religion, the castle, always under the prerogative of the Viscounts of Limoges, belongs to Jeanne d' Albret, regarded as catholic. In 1574, it passes to the hands of Protestants who are driven out by it the following year.
In 1582, the Viscount of Limoges is none other than Henri III of Navarre, the future King Henri IV. He sells the chatellenie d'Excideuil to the count Francois de Perusse des Cars.
By marriage, the castle passes to the family of Talleyrand-Perigord around 1613.
Forsaken by its new owners who transfer the objects and furniture of value into their Chateau de Chalais,, in the Charente, the chateau is degraded.
In 1883, Helie Roger de Talleyrand-Perigord bequeaths the Chateau d'Excideuil to the old people's homes of Chalais.
In 1973, a fire devastates the roofs of the chatelet of entry.
At the time of the last quarter of the XXth century, the family Naudet, the new owner, undertakes important work of rehabilitation/restoration.
