The imposing keep of the chateau de Madaillan, construction begins in the XIIIth century, and it dominates the narrow and green Bourbon valley.
Its architecture castrale symbolizes the evolutions of the various times combining defensive and residential elements. It is the theatre of many Franco-English confrontations in XIVth and XVth centuries, then is used as fortified camp for the Protestants during the Wars of religion.
It resists in 1575 to the marshal of Monluc, after failure, it is in fact not mentioned in its 'commentaires' to the Mayenne, then the Ducs d'Aiguillon who have the castle thereafter. Given up for a long time, the chateau was partially restored at the XIXth century and XXth century.
